Former Odisha minister and senior Congress leader Bhagirathi Gomango died in Bhubaneswar last Friday evening after prolonged illness.
GOMANGO WAS 83 and is survived by his nephew Giridhar Gomango, former Chief Minister of Odisha. He was the first Member of Parliament, elected from Koraput Parliamentary constituency and later elected to the Odisha Assembly six times from Gunupur Assembly Constituency in 1971, 1974, 1977, 1980, 1985 and 1990.

Mr Gomango also held the post of agriculture minister in 1972, the health portfolio in 1974, and the minister for agriculture and co-operation from 1980 to 85. Condoling the demise of Gomango, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik said Gomango was a popular tribal leader and an able administrator.
Mr Gomango was the native of Padmapur village under Gunupur sub-division of Rayagada district in Odisha.
