CONSUMER REPORTS magazine, who said on Monday July 12 that the iPhone 4, which officially landed in consumer's hands less than a month ago, could not recommend the phone because of a design flaw in its antenna and questioned Apple's explanation for some devices displaying weak signal strength and even dropping calls.
Consumer Reports said the problem could be solved by covering the antenna gap on the lower left-hand corner of the phone with tape. Consumer Reports also said that it tested several phones that use AT&T’s network including the iPhone 3GS and Palm Pre and only the iPhone 4 seemed to have the reception issue.
The Apple is facing these difficulties after consumers started complaining since the launch on 24 June that the device is not working properly and there is signal problem, call dropping consistently and the problem is due to the manufacturing fault in antenna.
According to the report, the Apple iPhone 4 earned 76 out of 100, placing it above the well regarded HTC EVO phone and two points ahead of the iPhone 3GS.
However, according to Apple, who wrote an open letter to iPhone 4 customers earlier this month said that the reception problems with the iPhone 4 had little to do with the actual antenna and almost everything to do with the formula used to calculate how many bars the iPhone displays.
