Content not the quality matters for video Citizen Journalists
Citizen Journalists have been giving tough competition to various news channels by breaking news..

THE TREND of Citizen Journalism is growing day by day. It is posing a serious challenge to traditional Journalists all over the world. Citizen Journalists are getting more involved on topics, which mainstream media has been neglecting. Hence, videos that have been posted on various platforms such as YouTube, Facebook etc by Citizen Journalists are increasing in popularity with every passing day. The hits, they receive even exceed the views of a Television programme.

It may be for this reason that CNN-IBN, an Indian channel that has a partnership with CNN, launched a programme for Citizen Journalists who want to share various issues and stories. It has become such a success that the channel awards the excellent Citizen Journalists.

It is not such a difficult job to film videos anymore. Gone are the days, when one needed a bulky camera to shoot videos. With the advancement of technology, a mobile phone, equipped with a good video camera can even be used to film surreptitious activities and the quality of the videos is always good. The best advantage that a Citizen Journalist has is the speed with which the news can be disseminated across the world.

The impact of videos was never felt the way, as it was witnessed during the Arab revolution. The videos soon become viral and reflected the seriousness of the matter. They even outdid news channels, who were reporting from the area. Citizen Journalists were at the heart of the location, where the action was taking place. Hence, they got the best videos, which were immediately uploaded on various platforms.

Though, one may say the videos were not up to the mark, as they were shaky, of lower resolution etc. But, it has to be understood that they are not shot by professional video Journalists, so it is unfair to complain about their quality. It is the content of the video that is important; hence these videos that had been taken by Citizen Journalists were used by news channels and news websites. Some news organizations have even added Journalistic content to these videos, so as to make it more professional.

An anonymous mobile video that was shot in Iran after the elections in the country received an award, George Polk Award for Journalism. The video shows the manner in which an Iranian girl was killed, which led to protests. The award is not only a victory for the people there but also for Citizen Journalists all around the world, making them a force to be reckon with.
