The resource person of the seminar explained the meaning of action research as a reflective process of researching one's on actions to improve the professional practice. He described different types of action researches such as classroom research, problem solving, pedagogical experiment, lesson studies, secondary analysis, focus groups, need analysis, product analysis, process analysis, interventions and participatory action research.
He emphasised the use of before-and-after design of research by teachers in schools as the most useful research methodology. The other methods can be related to reaction of students, case illustrations, focus group method, instructional design study, standardization of lesson plans, etc.
It was recommended that for action research non parametric statistics of sign test, chi-squared test, U- test, criterion referenced test, rank correlation coefficient, etc, for quick analysis of the results.
The coordinator of the workshop Sushobhana Singh said that the interactive sessions gave clarity of the concept and ideas for carrying forward the theme of reverse teaching as a part of action research in the school.
It was concluded that reading to learn skills and self study skills can be a significant part of relevant flipped classroom in our country.
The workshop also recommended that for the professional growth of teachers, it would be appropriate to convert classrooms into educational laboratories and equip teachers in the role of action researchers.
