Convert teacher education institutions into institutes of pedagogical science, suggest Jaipur interns
Recently, during an interaction with Indian and foreign interns who are currently in Jaipur, it came forth that teacher education institutes for both general and special education courses were hackneyed and ridden by the lecture method in the city.

The interns undergoing their graduate and post graduate studies, in their mid-twenties, have been placed in various schools and teacher training institutes in private and NGO sectors as a part of their education. They suggested that Indian educational institution should emphasize learning instead of mere teaching and passing on information to students.

They were of the view that the prospective teachers should be turned into pedagogical scientists who perform educational experiments and develop innovative classrooms for learning to happen in the classroom.

It needs to be understood that pedagogical science pertains to the study of the processes of learning, techniques of process-based learning and methods of teaching that induce learning to acquire a systematic understanding of how the human mind gets developed by processing new information.

After the interaction, my internet search informed me that the pedagogical approach to learning was approximately 60-years-old which had been attempting systematically orient and develop effective learning processes and several thousand studies have been done in pedagogical science and discovering best of learning practices.

Research informs that pedagogy that makes use of self-learning processes and direct one-on-one instruction between teacher and student induces best learning among students. In many foreign universities, students are majoring in pedagogical science and the teaching of the 21st century are becoming the parts of the flexible approaches to accommodate learning theories for the local environment and the context within which teachers and students are situated.
