A kutcha road is a dirt track made by mud. On plans, there exist ambitious programs to covert kutcha road into a proper road. Some time back, Union Rural Development Minister Jairam Ramesh announced that in one of the States 5,733 km of kutcha roads in the villages of the State would be converted to blacktop soon under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY).
There are also reports that between two elections, only a small miniscule of kilometers (around 3 km) of kutcha roads were converted into pucca roads.
In almost all the States in the country, especially in the rural side, kutcha roads exists in big numbers. Going by the definition of kutcha road as above, it can be well understood that though it is serving some purpose for daily commuters, the advantages could be huge if these roads are converted into pucca roads.
From Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) viewpoint, the above issue offers plenty of scope for doing something good to the society and therefore industries caring for the society can seize this opportunity.
And they can come forward to help different Governments in converting kutcha roads into pucca roads. Government is also requested to give more attention to those rural areas which is attracting more of tourist people and the like for converting kutcha roads into pucca roads.
