Converting Vedic text into nano and micro poems results in better perceived understanding of Vedic philosophy, reveals study
Writing nano and micro poems through word play can be helpful in understanding concisely the Vedic philosophy that appears in various periodicals and newspapers in the form of spiritual articles, reports a study to be presented at a conference to be held in Hans Raj Mahila Maha Vidyalaya early April in Jalandhar, Punjab.

According to the abstract of the study done by Dr Lalit Kishore of Jaipur, a lesson study was undertaken with undergraduate students learning through English medium for expressive language arts of six-word nano poetry and micro syllabic poetry of haiku which has Japanese origin. Such language art based short posts prepared on social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, have revealed better understanding of Vedic philosophy and thoughts.

According to the researcher of the study titled "Making Sense and Sharing of Vedic Philosophy through Nano And Micro Poetry on Social Media", the objectives of the study were: (1) to create an adapted one page reading material on Vedic philosophy based notion of development; (2) To make as sense of the material by reading and transforming the material into social media friendly language art of six-word poems and haiku, and (3) to study the reaction of students to the lesson.

The procedure of the study through the lesson study lasted for one hour and followed the process consisting of the following steps: (a) introducing the skill of writing nano and micro poetry with examples; (b) reading of one page write-up on 'Vedas and Development' and finding key words and phrases; (3) converting the words and phrases into nano and micro poems.

Some of the examples of the six-word poems were as follows:

Laws -
physical, spiritual,
govern the universe.

Cosmos - / perfect order / of physical, spiritual.

Know / mind, intellect, / soul – the non-physical.

The students reacted significantly positive and the good majority of their comments were related to perceived better understanding of the text on Vedas given to them to be converted into nano and micro=poetry..

The keywords of research consisted of language art, nano poem, micro poem, social media, Vedas and Vedic philosophy.
