Copenhagen climate change summit - Saving the world
Global warming is a major problem. To find a viable solution world leaders have begun a two-week conference in Copenhagen. Let us wait and watch and pray for a positive outcome of this grand session of leaders of the world
GLOBAL WARMING is a major problem that residents of our planet Earth have to solve. Produce elements of a healthy climate or perish. It is necessary for one and all to know that the ice sheet in Iceland and in Antarctica is melting at a pace faster than many scientists and ecologists had thought of.

Thus the warning bell has rung. It is for the denizens/residents of planet Earth to heed the warning and take remedial measures.

If the global warming goes on at the current pace, in less than a decade or so, low lying countries and cities like Maldives, Mumbai and parts of London will disappear from the face of the earth. The sea will swallow them. If land in appreciable and significant area disappears in sea or ocean water, we will have less space for human beings, domestic animals and for agriculture or horticulture. This will in turn increase social tension and the law and order situation in the human society will deteriorate. We as human beings must prevent it or at least minimise the resultant damage.

The emissions of co2, the green house gases cause global warming. Every individual can prevent it in his or her own way by taking steps to reduce global warming. If we do not light the conventional bulbs but switch over to cfl, we prevent global warming in some measure. Further, there are too many automobiles that are gas guzzlers and their emissions also cause global warming. Let us not use cars on certain days but walk. It will be a step in the right direction and may contribute to survival of Maldives as a country. With a view to drawing the attention of the world leaders and followers, the President and the entire cabinet had held a cabinet meeting under the sea near the sea shore.

All eyes are glued to Copenhagen. World leaders from 192 countries have assembled there along with about 100 are heads of states. They will be talking and discussing the question of life and death for two weeks. It is hoped that they will make some progress in cutting green house emissions and save the planet Earth from dissipation and eventual destruction. If the world leaders do not show concrete result to the world, it will appear to be just another session of gossip mongers.

We have had enough of such talking shops from Kyoto, Japan onwards and now is the time to have an enforceable agreement. The agreement should be legally binding on the signatories.

Copenhagen is a step forward in the right direction. Let us wait and watch and pray for a positive outcome of this grand session of leaders of the world.

Iceland has some glaciers, but the "ice sheets" you talk about are in Antarctica and Greenland.
