MAY 2011 marked a visible beginning of political changes, setbacks, sorrows, jolts and happiness for farmers in Uttar Pradesh. In early May Allahabad High Court struck down acquisition of over 150 hectares of land in Chak-Sahberi village in Greater Noida. July 19 2011 brought another setback to the investors, builders and Mayawati government when the Allahabad High Court nullified acquisition of nearly 600 hectares of land in two villages in Greater Noida.
Noida Extension Flat Buyers Welfare Association (NEFBWA), Confederation of Real Estate Developer's Associations of India (CREDAI) and several other committees and associations have been continuously trying to implore farmers, builders and flat-buyers to come together and find a solution to the problem. Our active and symbol of youth, politician Rahul Gandhi along with Digvijay Singh and Raj Babbar participated in the protests against the Order as a sign of support to the people who have invested in the Greater Noida builder projects.
Rahul Gandhi and other senior party members were arrested by Uttar Pradesh Police on May 12 2011 and were released on bail just after a span of 2 and a half hours. These political protests against the Supreme and High Court's orders have proven to give massive setback to the Mayawati Government. The seeds of these pro-landbuyers and dalits protests have started bearing fruits. This Rahul Gandhi politics has drawn multiple benefits to the current Congress government.
Benefit one: it gives setback to the Mayawati government and hits their dalit votebank hard. Benefit two: it pushes buyers from Noida to Gurgaon, which is a Congress supported state. There are talks to compensate the land buyers by giving them another un-disputed portion of land but my question is where and when? Would anybody now be interested in investing in Greater Noida? Hence, my above statement that it pushes buyers to Gurgaon.
In this whole episode of giving land to its original owner i.e. farmers and in the process of giving compensation or NO compensation, why does a buyer has to suffer? Why is the Honorable Supreme Court acting dim-witted in the process of taking corrective measures and returning acquired lands to farmers? This way it is punishing more innocent people who bought flats, and benefitting pro-Congress states and builders.
Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon is headed by candidates supported by Congress Party. Support of Congress in the past has resulted in Gurgaon in converting from a village to a new IT hub in Delhi NCR. And now as well it is Gurgaon, who despite of being low on security, expensive, has transportation, electricity and water problems, is seeing a boom in its real estate business, thanks to Congress support and Supreme Court's corrective measures. But in all this political games and implementation of Corrective Measures, it is the common man who suffers and faces the injustice.
There are ample examples of Honorable Supreme Court passing orders as corrective measures and these measures in return proving to be sweet fruits for ruling parties and an open wound for the people, state and the country. Policy-makers and government are blindly aping the procedure and system of development followed in foreign countries without caring or testing its suitability to the Indian cultural and social environment. The Court's order of shutting down the small and cottage industries, which provide employment to a major part of Indian population after agriculture, and shifting them to various malls proved to be beneficial for the politicians and builders who owned these malls. This latest system of grabbing land and selling it off at a price manifold higher has proven to be a new way of corruption and earning black money.
This, in return, is hampering the development of country on one hand and hard-earned money of millions being siphoned off to the pockets of few. I would also like to quote the famous sealing drive in Delhi as another example of so called Corrective measure turning into a multi-faceted disaster.
Factories were shifted to various Haryana cities (pro-Congress state). Mehrauli-Gurgaon (MG) road has now become a space for debris. The demolition drive has left scars on the face of the city in the form of broken buildings. These partially broken structures still stand on the road making a potential accidental hazard and also spoiling the view. But has anybody ever talked about why those buildings were allowed to be constructed in the first place? Who is being punished for letting that happen?
Similarly, nobody is talking about why the lands in Greater Noida villages were acquired on wrong reasons, and if it happened who is to be punished? All that is being said is "Return land to its original owner, i.e. farmers' but is this actually a corrective measure? I would like to suggest that our law-making authorities should actually start using the Dharma Kaanta while taking a decision, which is affecting millions on one side and benefiting a few on the other.
