Three employees had been dismissed from service for pension scam. Besides disciplinary action, compulsory retirement and major penalty has also been imposed on erring officials. Police and C.B.I are also investigating the cases.
There is old saying that during his visit to villages Guru Nanak had told bad elements to stay in village while blessed good elements to desert from the village. When his devotees asked Guru about his strange blessings, they were told that good elements will spread goodness where they goes.
This holds true with Sanjeev Chaturvedi. He was forced to leave Haryana for his crusade in exposing corruption in forest department. Although it was loss of Haryana but now it is proving to be the gain of All India institute of Medical Sciences.
Chaturvedi was suspended by Haryana govt. headed by Haryana chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda seven years back for exposing the construction of an illegal canal in a wildlife sanctuary. On his representation the Union Government overruled his suspension and revoked it after two years.
On his representation that he was charge sheeted wrongly and department proceedings launched to harass him Union Environment ministry set aside charge sheet and quashed disciplinary proceedings against him. Despite protests by the state Govt. Chaturvedi was appointed Chief Vigilance Officer of All India Institute of Medical Sciences.
After taking over his office in AIIMS, he started cleansing the Institute from corrupt elements. Once even there was a move to get him shunted out from the Institute from top quarters of Health Ministry but couldn'?t have been executed as Parliament Standing Committee on Health Department headed by M.P. Brajesh Pathak had taken stand in his favour.
Asked about his crusade against corrupt elements, Chaturvedi told Medicare that he was merely discharging his duties.
Chaturvedi has fined private Pharmacy at Institute for substituting prescribed drugs with cheaper ones. Pharmacy was allotted on condition that it will provide medicines at discount. This action of Chaturvedi has postponed planning of Institute for setting up another two private Pharmacies.
Besides pension scam has been unearthed in the Institute leading to sacking of three concerned employees. In this racket pension was being pocketed in name of some employees who had already died.
The police is also investigating the case. According to sources as many as six employees have been penalized for various offences including tampering the tenders and causing loss to Institute by purchasing sub-standard goods at exorbitant rates.
A senior officer has been sent on compulsory retirement with fifty percent cut in his pension as was accused of purchasing articles at higher prices from different sources despite the rate contract. Besides as extension in service given to a senior official was cancelled on recommendations of Vigilance.
