The 5-mile Green Walkathon is planned as a community event with an environmental cause where school and college students and enthusiasts from other institutions are invited to take part. Participants will be encouraged to display costumes and fancy dresses or placards that highlight various environmental issues that they care about.
In order to create awareness regarding the degeneration of our environment, all pit stops (fluid stations) along the route shall have posters and messages that shall highlight various aspects of our degenerated environment like air pollution, garbage management, polluted rivers and water resources, random mining and quarrying, abuse and neglect of our heritage structures among others.
Prizes worth Rs 1 lakh in the form of cash prizes, certificates and medals for the Half Marathon, Cycling Race and the Junior Run will be awarded for best costumes, placards and biggest contingent in the Green Walkathon.
The event ambassador for this Half Marathon shall be our very own marathoner, Mr Bining Lyngkhoi who has represented India in the New Delhi Commonwealth Games 2010 and is the first Indian to champion the Standard Chartered Mumbai Marathon for the year 2010 and 2011 and recently this year the Maulana Open National Marathon at New Delhi.
