In the initial trends, Congress is leading in all three states. The ruling Congress-NCP alliance was ahead of the Shiv Sena-BJP combine in Maharashtra. In Haryana the party is leading in 28 seats, while in Arunachal Pradesh it is ahead in 11 seats.
CONSIDERED THE ‘Super Thursday’ for the major political parties, counting of votes for the recently concluded Assembly polls in Maharashtra, Haryana and Arunachal Pradesh started on Thursday, October 22, amid tight security. The counting process began at 8 am at various centres of the respective states, under the strict surveillance of the officials of the Election Commission.
The apex body has made adequate arrangements in all three states to ensure that the exercise is carried out smoothly. The EC has directed Chief Electoral Officers of the three states to ensure that the result of the round-wise counting of votes are immediately displayed on blackboards inside the counting centre and announced through public address systems. Further, the EC directive said, the next round of counting should be taken up only after the results of the previous rounds have been displayed. In the initial trends, Congress is leading in all three states. As the last report came in, the ruling Congress-NCP alliance was ahead of the Shiv Sena-BJP combine in Maharashtra. Although Shiv Sena was doing well in the capital city of Mumbai and other parts, but the incumbent alliance was leading in over 110 seats in comparison to Shiv Sena – BJP alliance’s 75 seats. Raj Thackeray led MNS was leading in 12 seats and the Third Front was ahead in 7 seats.
In Haryana, Congress is leading in 28 seats, while the opposition INLD and BJP were ahead in 18 and five seats respectively. In north-eastern state of Arunachal Pradesh, the ruling Congress was ahead in 11 seats. By midday, the results are expected to be fully announced in all the three states. Till then let us wait for the interesting outcome after the Lok Sabha elections in Maharashtra and Haryana.
