Country's biggest science congregation at IIIT-A
IIIT-A is all set to host seven day Science Conclave at its campus from Dec 8-14,2009 in which thousands of students belonging to different parts of the country will take part. Dozen of Nobel Laureates across the world will come together.
FOR THE second time in the country, a dozen of Nobel Laureates across the world will congregate at ‘Science Conclave’ organised by Indian Institute of Information Technology, Allahabad during December 8 to 14, 2009, to interact with young scientists, students and teachers to inspire them and give new thrust to science education, research and development in India.
 
Disclosing this IIITA director and chairman, Science Conclave-2009, said that Nobel Laureates Prof Douglas D Osheroff (Physics), Avram Hershko, (Biologist/Chemist), Robert C Richardson (Physics), Joseph H Taylor (Physics), Prof Richard Ernst (Chemistry), William Phillips (Physics), Peter Agre, (Chemistry/Medicine), Jean-Marie Lehn (Chemistry), Ludwig Faddeev ( Mathematics), Prof Joseph H Taylor ( Physics), Prof Sydney, Altman, Prof Klaus Von Klitzing and Prof Gerard ‘T Hoot, Physics in the Science Conclave-2009.
 
Over 1500 young scientists, science students and teachers across the country have been selected so far for this seven day conclave. About 24 distinguished international scientists including Prof Jean-Marc Rapp, Switzerland; Prof Dr Margret Wintermantel, Germany; Prof Thomas Ming Swi Chang, Canada; Dr S Prakash, Canada; Prof Alexander K Gaponenko, Russia; Prof Elena Paviyukova, Russia; Prof Satish K Tripathi, USA; Prof Satish Chandra, USA; Pramod Rastogi, Switerland; Prof Devki N Talwar, USA; Dr Haris S Sharma, Netherlands; Prof Dr Victom WM Van Hinsbergh, Netherlands; Prof Dharma P Agrawal, USA; Prof Anish Arora, USA; Dr Julie McCann, UK; Prof Mriganka Sur, USA; Dr Maxim Antonenko, Russia; Prof Ramjee Prasad, Denmark; Belotserkovskii, Russia; C Mohan, IBM, USA; Dr Stuart Parkin, IBM, USA; David Harame, IBM, USA; Ray Harishankar, IBM, USA; Dr Sasi K Paillay, CIO, NASA John H. Glenn Research Center, USA will be interacting with the participants.
 
IIIT-A has taken this initiative on the concern expressed by Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh on decline of basic science and research in the country. The Ministry of Human Resource and Development and Department of Science and Technology, Government of India have jointly supported this unique event.
 
Cultural evenings will witness the artists like Peenaz Masani, Abhijeet Bhattacharya, puppet show and classical dance Bharatnatayam by Malayalam film actresses Shobna Chandra Kumar, said Dr Tiwari.

A media centre equipped with all modern facilities is also set up at the institute for media persons.
