SENIOR CPI-M leader and former Lok Sabha MP, Varkala Radhakrishnan died in Thiruvananthapuram today. He was facing complications due to injuries susta an accident last week.
The fomer Kerela assembly Speaker was undergoing treatment at the Medical College Hospital for the last few days after he was hit by a vehicle while doing morning walk. The accident caused fracture in the ribs which affected the functioning of his lungs, doctor said. He was 84 year old. His condition deteriorated last night as all effort to save him went in vain. He died at 9 am.
He is survived by wife, son and two daughters. Radhakrishnan was elected to the Lok Sabha thrice from Chirayinkil constituency. He represented Varkala region four time in Kerela assembly. He was Speaker of the house between 1987 and 1991.
