CPI Maoists Party of India forms new party unit in Odisha

The CPI Maoists Party of India Central Committee have formed a new party unit recently in Chhattishgarh. The Odisha Border Committee (COBC) will function to strengthen their movement and to counter the expelled Maoists leader Sabyasachi Panda's new party Odisha Maoists Party.

SOURCES CONFIRMED that about 60 selected members of the newly formed unit, which will be headed by Mala Raja Reddy who will be the first Secretary of COBC. Mr. Reddy is expert in motivating people and the Maoists cadre have tremendous organizational capability.

The new party unit has already prepared a blue print to counter Panda in the areas of Kandhamal, Gajapati, Rayagada and Ganjam. The Central Committee has issued a letter to the unit head which depicted Panda as a traitor and as someone who is useless for the party.

The newly formed division would work in the border areas and forests of the two states and require new people. In addition, Balangir and Bargarh districts of Odisha would work with the new unit. Reddy hails from Karimnagar districts of Andrapradesh. The domination of Telugu cadre in the Andhra – Odisah Border Committee, which is headed by Modem Balakrishna alias Monaj, have a difference of opinion, and forced Sabyasachi Panda to send a resignation letter to Central Committee.

Panda also mentioned in his resignation letter “our AOB leaders are always for their superiority and tried to keep Odisha Committee as subordinates, politically they never think about Odisha, its people's condition and political acceptance.” Pointing out that the AOB Committee demanded the release of only Telugu cadre in exchange for the release of Malakangiri Collector Mr. Veenil Krishana in Feb’2011, the letter also indicates the difference in food habits, etc.

However, the difference between the two led by Sabyasachi Panda and other CPI Maoist party of India may deteriorate the party's position in Odisha. It seems Sabyasachi Panda is likely to surrender before the government, political observers have opined. However, it is up to Panda to decide whether to join the mainstream or to fight the CPI Maoists' new unit on one hand and on the other deal with security forces deployed by the government for anti-naxal operations.
