CPI (ML) leader Gannanath Patro acquitted
The 80-year-old Convener Chasi Muliya Adivasi Sangh of Narayanpatna, Gannath Patra, was acquitted by Additional Sessions Judge of Fast Track Court, Koraput, Odisha, on Thursday in the case related to Narayan Patna registered against him at the Narayanpatna Police Station related for armed looting.

PATRA WAS arrested under various cases. He was acquitted because the prosecution failed to prove the charges, said Patra’s advocate Nihar Ranjan Patnaik. Additional District Judge (Fast Track) had acquitted Patra for his alleged involvement in the abduction of as many as 11 persons in April 2009.

Release of Patra, a former chemistry lecturer, is one of the demands made by Maoists for the release of Collector Malakangiri Veenela Krishna. Patra has been acquitted in four cases earlier. In December 2011, a Koraput Court had acquitted Patra in a 5th case of murder and cattle theft case. The court also withdrew the earlier order by the High Court, which restricted him from going to Narayanpatna in Koraput District on 27th of this month. Besides Patra, 15 others have been acquitted by the Additional District Judge (Fast Track) Court, Koraput on Thursday last. The court pronounced its verdict on the basis of the statement of witnesses during evening hours on the 27th.

Talking to this citizen journalist , GananathPatra said that the President of CMAS Nachika Linga is having no connection with Maoists but still the police branded him as Maoist.

Gananath Patra worked as a lecturer after completion his post graduation in science and left his service as a lecturer and joined in the people’s movement at Baliapal, Kalshipur and Kalinga Nagar against corporate conspiracy. Patra was attracted by Telegana people's movement before joining in CPI(ML) way back 1969, he said.

Around 10 lakh acres of land was distributed in Telegana through mass movement though several people were killed in the movement by the police. However, this was implemented in Narayanpatna, and CMAS was formed in 1994 with Patra as an adviser and Nachika Linga as a President. Patra was arrested in Bhubaneswar on 27.01.2010 and acquitted in almost all the cases, and finally on 27.09.2012, all charges have been lifted.
