The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and Baby Matters LLC on Monday July 26 issued a voluntary recall of approximately 30,000 Nap Nanny Baby recliners after the death of a 4-month-old infant.
A 4-month-old baby in Michigan died using the recliner and was found with her head caught between the Nap Nanny and a crib bumper. There have also been 22 additional incidents of infants hanging over the side of or falling out of the Nap Nanny despite the safety harness.
The CPSC advised that the consumers with a first generation Nap Nanny models, without 'D'-rings, should stop using the recalled baby recliners immediately. Consumers with a second generation Nap Nanny model, with 'D'-rings, should also immediately stop using the product until they obtain new product instructions and warnings.
The recalled Nap Nannys were sold at toy and children's retail stores nationwide and online from January 2009 through July 2010. The recalled products were manufactured in the U.S. and China and were sold at nationwide retail stores. The Nap Nanny was introduced in 2009 at a cost of $130.
