Pakistan is the biggest stumbling block in India helping Afghanistan. India is popular among common Afghans all over the country. Pakistan hates this and keeps on secretly planning to oust India from Afghanistan. Bad luck has met Pakistan so far.
INDEED AFGHANISTAN is an important country for the Indian sub-continent. In days of yore all invaders, be it Alexander of Macedonia or Genghis Khan of Mongolia (who was not a Muslim but worshipped sky and super-natural elements of nature), Taimurlane of Samarkand or numerous hordes of Sakas and Hun tribes came to conquer India and passed through Afghanistan. The Afghans too followed suit and tasted spoils of war on the plains of the Ganges.
Trend reversed In the 21st century the trend is reversed. No inflow into India through the Khyber Pass. Now men of Indian origin well versed in technology, engineering and science, education and medical profession are pouring into the unsettled areas of Afghanistan to spread light and remove darkness from Kabul to Herat both literally and figuratively.
The Afghan people are grateful to people from India for bringing electricity to their national capital, Kabul and cultural centre, Herat. The Indians chanted Tamaso ma jyotirgamaya (O God lead us from darkness unto light) and the light generated by Indians removed darkness from the lives of Afghans. The Afghans, captain and commoner alike, are grateful to the government and people of India for this precious gift that will last generation after generation. Jealous Pakistan If anyone has hated from heart this philanthropic work of India, it is none other than Pakistan - harbinger of death and destruction through Islamist terror. The Afghans have not liked this negative attitude of Pakistan. Both the countries are Islamic but there is hell of a difference between the two in their attitude towards India. Afghans love Indians for their selfless work. Pakistan hates India for the popularity that the Indians are getting among the common folks of Afghanistan. The root cause of Pakistan's hatred for India is the massive defeat of Pakistan at the hands of the Indian soldiers in 1971 when 93,000 Pakistanis surrendered unconditionally to the Indian Army in Dacca and laid down their arms. It is etched in the hearts and minds of Pakistan and it has unleashed its Hate Hindu, Hate India campaign even in Afghanistan. It has resulted in unhealthy competition between the two arch-rivals and the United States diplomats in the region are concerned. Afghanistan does not wish to be tied to the apron strings of Pakistan. When the Soviet army withdrew in 1980s from Afghanistan, the Taliban ruled the country. In virtual fact it was Pakistan that became the real ruler. Pakistan wants history to be repeated. India is opposed to it. That is why India does not wish Taliban anywhere near the seat of power in Afghanistan. Indian doctors, engineers, educationists and administrators are in Kabul at a great risk to their life and limb. They will continue to be there to keep the Indian flag flying. Pakistan may like it or lump it, India does not care. India will continue helping Afghanistan to stand on its own feet, come rain come shine.
