One of the causes of the road accidents in many places could be broken roads and therefore with the help of this fund, priority can be accorded to repair and maintaining the road condition in a better way in different parts of the country.

It is good to see that accident statistics of commuting road vehicles are prominently displayed at vital junctions. These statistics compare the figures of the past four or five years including the present by giving details like number of people who had lost their lives, number of people who have sustained injuries, number of vehicles damaged, and so on. The area governing a police station and traffic control are the courtesy partners in this display. Such displays boost up the confidence of the commuting public and therefore should come up in many more probable places across the country.

It is also to be appreciated that besides red lights, the timer showing the minutes and seconds at traffic light junctions are also helping the movement of vehicular traffic to run smoothly easing the stress and tension in the minds of the driving community. Such measures have definitely helped in reducing the number of accidents, enabling free flow of traffic. However, in some places, it could be possible, whenever there is a power cut, these timers could be turned off, leaving the commuting people to make guesses at traffic light junctions. Therefore, efforts should be made to ensure that in spite of
power cuts or failures, the timers installed and traffic lights installed at different traffic junctions work round the clock, 7 days a week and 365 days in a year.  Solar power batteries, either as a back up or as a direct support should also be introduced at probable places to make these systems work round the clock.

More and more efforts should be made to ensure that commuting people whether pedestrians or
cyclists or those using vehicular mode, all should be made to feel comfortable. The basic objective of all these efforts is to drastically reduce the number of road accidents. Creation of road safety fund is a welcome move in this regard.
