Credit card laws 2010, changes in credit card policy
The changes in the credit card policy include Opting-in for overdraft and over limit protections, putting an end to confusing billing practices, interest-rate reform and protections for young consumers.

THE NEW credit card laws have been put into effect from today, which will have enhanced features and will plug a number of security loopholes that a growing number of consumers have been complaining about.

Earlier, the hair trigger interest rates and the retroactive rates were costing the US card users at least $10 billion annually according to a research conducted by Pew Charitable Trusts.

Among a spate of changes implemented in the new card, sweeping changes in the Disclosure (CARD) Act, Credit Card Accountability and Responsibility have been incorporated. The major proportion of the changes was in the CARD Act. Some of the key changes include Opting-in for overdraft and over limit protections, putting an end to confusing billing practices, interest-rate reform and protections for young consumers.

Concerns over issues such as excessive marketing of credit cards to college students below the age of 21, the sudden reforms in interest rates and customers having no overdraft program option, were finally heard. Hence, the changes are expected to be greeted with open arms by the customers.
