The Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) is organizing a regional workshop on ''Energy and Resource Efficiency in Urban Water Management'' on December 20, 2013 at Casuarina Hall, India Habitat Centre (IHC), New Delhi. It is supported by Comprehensive Capacity Building Programme (CCBP), National Urban Renewal Mission (NURM), Ministry of Urban Development Govt. of India, Delhi Jal Board, Urban Development Department and Govt NCT of Delhi.
The workshop will focus on issues of resources and energy efficiency in urban water supply including mainstreaming of Best Management Practices (BMPs) for energy and resource efficiency in sustainable urban water/wastewater management, associated operational challenges and strategies for mainstreaming reforms in National Urban Renewal Mission (NURM) projects.
All Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) including the NURM mission cities need to expand the accessibility and availability of water supply and sanitation facilities to make the cities vibrant. But the opportunities under NURM come with a challenge to mainstream the BMPs and reforms targeted at energy and resource efficiency measures in urban water management for long term sustainability.
The workshop will be attended by over 60 stakeholders - municipal functionaries from local bodies, development authorities and public health departments - both policy makers and senior officials involved in planning and implementation of NURM projects in the target states (Delhi, Chandigarh, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Punjab and Uttarakhand).
