CHURCH OF Scientology International (CSI) has expressed interest in working with acclaimed Hindu leader, Rajan Zed, on interfaith issues.
Edward Parkin, director and vice president for cultural affairs of CSI, in a communiqué to Zed, wrote, “…I look forward to working with you on our mutual interfaith actions. We really need to bring religious beliefs, faith and action back to this culture. We are in planning mode for the next interfaith conference and would be highly interested in working with you….”
Zed has also been invited to attend annual CSI celebrity gala celebration on August 2. He has also been asked to participate in large national interfaith 'Children’s Day' event/conference to be organised by CSI in Los Angeles (USA) on November 23, in which Nickelodeon Studios and Los Angeles Lakers (prominent national basketball association team) are also participating. He has also been invited to visit CSI headquarters in Los Angeles.

Scientology began in 1950 with publication of Dianetics by L Ron Hubbard. It claims to have a network of over 2,600 churches, missions and groups around the world. The ultimate goal of scientology is true spiritual enlightenment and freedom for the individual.

Hinduism, oldest and third largest religion of the world, has about one billion followers. Moksha (liberation) is the ultimate goal of Hinduism.

I believe it would be in Rajan Zed's best interest to abstain from associating himself with an organization known better for its practices of intimidation and ill use of its followers than any form of true spiritual enlightenment. Research the issues, read the stories, and decide if Scientology is something you will willingly associate yourself with.

I sincerely hope that Rajan Zed becomes informed about the Church of Scientology before associating himself with them. Mr Zed has in the past been a fine example of interfaith dialog and respect. However associating himself and the Hindu faith with David Miscavage, the leader of Scientology, risks tarnishing Mr. Zed's esteemed reputation. I have faith that a man of Rajan Zeds caliber will carefully consider this invitation and it's future ramifications. I strongly support interfaith dialog, yet I sincerely hope Mr Zed will consider other opportunities with more creditable and reputable faith communities.
