EXCITED CRICKET FANS are awaiting the commencement of the World Cup carnival with great zeal. West Indies, the host country, has started elaborate preparations for the grand event. More than 10,000 visitors are likely to visit the Caribbean islands to watch the matches live. This international fest of cricket will be welcomed by a grand and colourful opening ceremony followed by a display of fireworks.

The world is likely to be awed by spectacular performances by leviathan teams. At the same time a lot of gush is going around about Bermuda playing in the World Cup for the very first time. Moreover, it is going to be one of the most unpredictable World Cups. There are loads of guesses, but no certainty about who will in the end clinch the cup.

The people of West Indies have stepped into the festive mood. Apart from the event itself, the entire country has been revamped and the Tourism Department is leaving no stone unturned to gain maximum profit. Getting World Cup Ready is one hell of a task. It is like a dress rehearsal for the grand finale. The stadiums are being redecorated, the streets are being beautified and school children are being prepared to perform for the opening ceremony. New accommodations are being set up to house thousands of cricket fans from all over the globe. Nitty gritties like adequate medical facilities and food supplies are being looked into. Another high-priority concern pertains to security issues. The logistics call for cross-country organizational skills and cooperation.

The clash of the titans will begin on March 13 with the first match being played between West Indies and Pakistan. The event is expected to unleash some ravishing performances from the world’s best cricketers. Fans are eagerly waiting to watch the Master Blaster, Sachin Tendulkar perform, as it may well be his last World Cup. There will be moments of victory, cheer and a lot of media coverage. The land of sand and sun has a lot to offer and explore.

The World Cup 2007 is going to be one of the most colorful cricket World Cups held so far, scheduled as it is this time in the carefree and celebrative Caribbean islands.
