Former President of Cyprus, Tassos Papadopoulos body which was stolen from its tomb three months ago, was found in a shallow grave in another cemetery.
FORMER PRESIDENT of Cyprus, Tassos Papadopoulos body which was stolen from its tomb three months ago, was found in a shallow grave in another cemetery. Tassos Papadopoulos was Cyprus President from 2003 to 2008. Cyprus police arrested three people on Tuesday over the charge of theft of former president Tassos Papadopoulos's body.
The body was identified by family members. Cypriot newspapers reported that police suspected a criminal gang of snatching the body. Present president Demetris Christofias, joined the family in expressing "relief and satisfaction" over the discovery. Although, former president Papadopoulos family denied a ransom request was made. Cypriot media said the body snatchers had demanded 300,000 Euros (266,900 pounds).
Papadopoulos's body was stolen from inside his coffin on December 11, a day before a memorial service was due to be held to mark the first anniversary of the president's death from lung cancer.
