REPUBLICAN DANIEL M Donovan, the Richmond County district attorney, has made an announcement that he will be running for attorney general. His campaign, as expected has one main theme of cleaning up Albany.
Donovan did not comment when asked if he thought the current attorney general has done enough to address corruption. Donovan's gamble is that Democrats running for the seat can't claim to have worked on the issue with the same vigor, since their party is the one currently in control over every part of state government. This weekend, Daniel M. Donovan Jr., the Staten Island district attorney, became the first Republican to formally enter the crowded field for New York attorney general. The fifty three year old was elected district attorney of Staten Island in 2003. He was the first Republican to be elected district attorney in New York City in fifty years. Now in his second term, Mr. Donovan announced his candidacy on the steps of the state courthouse in Lower Manhattan and vowed to focus on rooting out corruption in Albany.
