Daniel Vettori in an elite club of all rounders
Daniel Vettori made history on Wednesday and joined illustrious club of cricket players with 3000 runs and 300 wickets in Test cricket. He is the eighth player in world to do so and second New Zealander after legendary pace bowler Sir Richard Hadlee
NEW ZEALAND'S leading cricketer and team captain Daniel Vettori made history on Wednesday (August 26), in the Colombo Test match against Sri Lanka.

Left arm spinner while playing in the second Test match of the series took the crucial wicket of Sri Lanka’s premiere batsman Kumar Sangakkara and with that created history and joined illustrious club of cricket players with 3000 runs and 300 wickets in Test cricket. He is only the eighth player in the world to do so while second New Zealander after legendary pace bowler Sir Richard Hadlee. The other seven in the elite club are Kapil Dev of India, Ian Botham of England, Imran Khan of Pakistan, Shaun Pullock of South Africa, Shane Warne of Australia and Chaminda Vaas of Sri Lanka.

By joining the elite club of players with 3000 runs and 3000 wickets, he became only the first left arm spin bowler of the world to achieve the rare feet. England all rounder Derek Underwood is the next left arm spinner with impressive test record. Daniel achieved the splendid feet playing in his 94th Test match. His rare achievement in 94th Test match of his career is the sixth fastest history of Test cricket.

Looking ecstatic with the record, Daniel said, “As a spin bowler, I didn’t think a feat like this will happen, so it’s a very special feeling.” When asked to comment on his all round skill the soft spoken New Zealander said, “I still see myself as a bowler rather than an all rounder.”
