Darkness prevails in 1.7 million homes in the United States
Three people have reportedly died due to the heavy snowstorm that struck northeastern America on Sunday. With millions of houses out of electricity, it is expected that it will take weeks to clean up the mess.
THE NORTHEASTERN part of the United States had a spooky Halloween this year, quite literally. The early snowstorm that hit north eastern United States on Sunday apart from giving power blackouts also killed three people, in what can be called freak accidents.

The first case was reported as a snow filled tree fell on an octogenarian man in Pennsylvania. A second man was killed on the road in Connecticut while the third person died as he touched a metal guard after ignoring police barricades. The metal guard was down after power cable fell on it.

Power outages were seen across Maryland to Maine while Connecticut was the state that was worst hit. In Connecticut 750,000 homes were without electricity and the Mayor of the state Dannel Malloy said that it could take at least a week for normalcy to return.

Amongst the sufferers were school children who will now have to stay back at home till the snow is cleared. On Monday, a storm across north east had dumped about thirty inches of wet and heavy snow. However, with the temperatures expected to rise, as per the National Weather Service, the snow will gradually start to melt. But it will be a strenuous task to clear snow that measures thirty inches and restore power in about three million homes across north east United States.

Till Monday afternoon, branches, trees and live power cables were seen littered on the roads and on local rail tracks thus hampering commuting options to many of the north eastern people on Monday. With live wire cables, strict walking instructions have been passed for the pedestrians and all the Halloween parties have been cancelled fearing that some young trick-or-treaters could topple over them and having a disastrous end.
