Daryl Harper disappointed with Indian players, speaks his mind
The Australian umpire committed some errors in the first Test match played between India and West Indies. Indian players were disappointed with the wrong decisions so they were vocal about it, which..
DARYL HARPER came into the forefront after he committed several errors in the recently concluded first Test match featuring India and West Indies. Harper feels that the Indian players also did not play in the spirit of the game, which has left him disappointed.

One of the comments that he has made about the ‘beef burger’ might not be easily digested by Indians and cricket fans, and they may feel offensive about it. He had said, "failing to detect Bishoo’s back foot no ball is as common as Indians eating beef burger". But he seemed to be pretty pleased with his performance during the game. He found out that, via ICC findings, that of all the decisions he made, 94 per cent of them were correct.

MS Dhoni was not happy with Harper and lashed out in the post-match press conference stating that if correct decisions were made, the match would have finished earlier. But, his words do not hold any justice as the Indian team were the only team that has opposed the UDRS system, which could have been used to rectify similar mistakes. MS Dhoni has criticized the UDRS in the past.

Some experts are also of the view that it is the power of the BCCI that the Indian players takes advantage of, and attack the umpires for their human errors. It is not for the first time that the Indian team has criticised an umpire in a series. In 2009, Steve Bucknor was also not allowed to stand in as the umpire for the Test match against India and Australia in the 4th test match, after making some errors. Bucknor had said that, it was the power of BCCI money that got him sacked from the Test match.

The Australian umpire was supposed to stand in the third Test match too, but he decided to opt out of the match as he received severe criticism by the Indian players and the media too. It would have been his final Test match as an ICC elite panel umpire. He has been ousted from the elite panel of umpires as his term expires in July 2011. He has also received the Bronze bails award by the ICC after he stood as an umpire in 100 ODI matches.
