With the car bomb attack in Peshawar, more than 300 innocent people have lost their lives and many hundreds have been injured in October 2009 alone. A total of nine major attacks and blasts have been carried out in Oct in Pakistan.
IN THEIR continued attacks on innocent people, on October 28, the Taliban once again carried out a car bomb explosion in the busy market of Peshawar in north-west Pakistan. The explosion was so powerful that the buildings near the explosion site, including the mosque, caught fire and collapsed. The car bomb exploded a few hours after the US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s arrival to Lahore on three-day visit to Pakistan.
On one side the armed forces of Pakistan are busy flushing out Taliban militants from Waziristan Province, and on the other, Taliban are targeting various government and public places or establishments. The mindless nature of attacks is evident from the increase in frequency and intensity of bombings, particularly in the month of October. A total of nine major attacks and blasts have been carried out in October (till today) in Islamabad, Peshawar, Rawalpindi, Swat Valley, and in areas of northern Pakistan.
Yesterday’s car bomb explosion was the third in a row in Peshawar, and of course it was the most powerful attack till date. Peshawar alone accounts 200 deaths and injuries to a few hundred people. With yesterday’s dastardly car bomb attack, which resulted in about 105 deaths and hundreds injured, mainly women and children, the number of those killed by Taliban and their associates in October 2009 has gone over 300.
