Dave, Shelly and Chainsaw go off the air
Radio listeners in San Diego would surely feel the loss as KGB station favourite morning show - Dave Shelly and Chainsaw would go off the air. The show was hosted by DSC team - Dave Rickards, Shelly Dunn and Cookie 'Chainsaw' Randolph.
THE MORNING radio show on KGB is being taken off the air. The popular show, hosted by Dave Rickards, Shelly Dunn and Cookie "Chainsaw" Randolph or the popular DSC team is ending as per an announcement on the KGB station website this morning.The notice said, "After extensive negotiations and offering the DSC team a very lucrative, multi-year offer, we were unfortunately not able to reach an agreement to keep the show with KGB. We wish Dave, Shelly and Chainsaw all the best in their future pursuits and thank them for their contribution to the station."
KGB station, the classic rock station concluded the notice by promising listeners in San Diego that it would continur its "special relationship" with them.
"We're feeling the loss just like you", Lewis said on the air, adding the DSC team were like family. "But we're here and we'll always be here and I just want to let you know I really appreciate you, like listening..."

.I too noticed the political slant the show took in the last few months. This took away from the fun of listening to the show. I called in during a "who needs to shut up" bit and the tone of Dave's voice showed how he was unhappy I had the audacity to badmouth his idol! The political opinions of most of this group derailed the show. That and I think they got too full of themselves!
.The day comedy died in San Diego.
Clear Channel Communications decided to save money by losing listeners. They got rid of Mikey, Jeff & Jer and now DSC. I was a DSC fan. I may not have enjoyed some of their bits, the whole Bromo is an idiot gag got old very fast, but agree or not, they were entertaining and after 20 years they were friends, neighbors to us all. Now KGB is just a source of old music. I quit listening to radio and broke out my old cd's. I'm sure there are many others who felt the same way. Clear Channel, you get your money from advertisers, advertisers pay more for spots on popular shows. Get rid of the popular shows and you lower your income. Economics 101. It takes money to make money.
Dave, Shelly, Chainsaw, Boyer, Ruth wherever you are I hope you get to do something you love. We miss you, wish you could stay in touch.
.I was really saddedned to hear this news. I had listened to the DSC show for years, but I Haven't recentlly , because my commute no longer takes me to SD, but Corona. And I live in Temecula. They will be missed. I think they do have a certain attitude about themselves, like they can do no wrong. They aren't necessarily funny, but they are entertaining.And they make good use of other people's comical bits. Classic case of too big for your britches! But, something tells me this may be a publicity stunt. And they'll be back. Maybe KGB is willing to do without them for a while, in order to get them to understand that this is a 2 way street! Stop being so self absorbed, guys and get back to what you do!!
.GET LOST: I have listened to DSC ever since I moved here in 1996. I've found them to be topical, convivial, and funny. Great chemistry and good for a laugh. At least, that's the impression I received as a listener. Then, about 2 months ago, I sent them an email registering a complaint that they were getting too political (they were mired in a "health care legislation" rant). My complaint wasn't angry. In fact, I think I wrote "Hey! You're putting us to sleep." I was surprised that I received a reply from Dave himself. I was even more surprised at the sharp tone of his reply: "If you don't like it, get lost!" Needless to say, I was thrown off. Such arrogance! I think Dave was getting too cocky. He kept having his wife Nicole call in to treat all of us to another update on lifestyles of the rich and famous. I really tired of her stories about their horses, her riding competitions, their latest vacations, her convertible... this was not wise programming given the state of the economy. What listener, barely making it paycheck-to-paycheck, wants to hear about their restaurant service in Hawaii, her trip to Europe, or her trainer's regimen? I thought Boyer was getting too creepy, his right-wing tirades getting more outrageous and threatening to the President. What I'm saying is that, though I will miss them, I'm pretty sure we will all do fine without them. Maybe Dave can take this time to get anger management, Boyer can get back on his meds, and Nicole can get a real job. They can, to quote someone we know... "get lost".
.It's not the time to play how much more money can I get. DSC obviously made a bad business decision based on Dave's over inflated ego. Not as good as he thinks he is. Oh well, out with the old. Give it a few months and it will be a non event. I don't feel any loss at all, just think they got what they deserved. Welcome to reality. Now Dave and Boyer can be true east county white trash
.DSC Has done alot for San Diego , and has helped year after year helping people in need .
I;am sure they put money in Clear Channels pockets
Oh and don't think I am going to forget this PUNCH in the face any time soon.
Plan on closing more stations soon!!!!!

.I am sending this comment with great sadness in my heart. I am stunned at the loss of the DSC show from KGB. This is not just a program going off the air; this is like losing a family member. I have listened to this show for 18 years. My family and I have grown up with Dave, Shelly, Chainsaw, Boyer, Ruthie, and all the other DSC family members along the way. While I love Rock & Roll, my primary reason for listening to KGB was for the DSC show. Some of your best sponsors have become household names really because of DSC. (I shopped Sleep Train just because of DSC). I understand business but sometimes business is just wrong. I cannot believe that you will make more money without DSC then with them. I know there are three sides to every story but can management please find a way to make this right and bring our family back. I hate to be like this but I am afraid that I will no longer be able to be a loyal listener to KGB because I really was a loyal listener of DSC. It is hard to put into words how much a show like this means to all of us but their families became our families and we cannot just let go. Please bring them back. How many beds and burritos do we need to buy to make this happen? To paraphrase a Dire Straits song "I want my DSC". They touched and continue to touch so many people including many of our troops overseas. Their charity work far surpassed any other radio show in San Diego. Please, please find a way to bring DSC back home.
.I agree and the only reason why I turned in to KGB was on my way home to listen to the replay. I just deleated KGB from my music choice.
.Good riddance. I was tired of their stupid no music playing lame show when it aired morning and night 30 days after 9-11. Finally getting rid of the dead weight.
.Well, I'm gone too. The only reason I listened to KGB was to listen to the DSC. I think for many of us they were like family. I'm sorry to hear about this economic decision but you are going to lose a huge market share. This morning I turned on 101.5 KGB to listen to DSC and I heard Whitesnake. Come up with the money to pay them what they deserve.

.KGB is a 20 song station with a bunch of boring chat. With these clowns gone maybe they can make room for 30 or 40 other songs that have been written in the past 50 years.
DSC was nothing but mindless banter and talk about how gay Ruth is....BORING!
.HUGE mistake Clear Channel! I have no use for you or KGB anymore. The DSC was the only reason I tuned into that station, because Lord knows I can live the rest of my life without ever hearing another Hendrix or Doors song ever again.
.Bring them back!! I'm new to San Diego and those guys cheered me up every day. They were the only reason I listened to KGB and their advertisers since the local ads are so crap. It was the only way I listened to local advertisers. You keep the DSC away, you keep me away.

.I hope they don't wind up on "The Walrus" or something like that. I can't get their weak station at all. Maybe Jack will pick them up? Either way, Clear Channel, you blew it. They were the only reason to listen to KGB. We're all tired of Led Zeppelin and Jimi Hendrix. No reason to listen now.
.Hopefully they can work out some sort of deal. KGB's ratings will go down the toilet without a decent morning show. But, as the recent demise of Jeff n Jer shows, no one is irreplaceable. To hold out for mor emoney in this economy is "unwise" to say the least.

.I am sure that Clear Channel made a "lucrative offer." Try again. Try harder. The only reason that a Clear Channel station is one of my radio's presets is because of Dave, Shelley, and Chainsaw. Without them I have no use for KGB.

.What a terrible way to start off the new year...I turned on the radio this morning excited to hear how the DSC vacations were. Clear Channel really messed this one up!
