As the trial of David Coleman Headley enters into its fourth day, the key accused in the Mumbai carnage has made some important revelations, which will not just affect the Indo-Pak relation, but will also create a rift between the US and Pakistan.
DAVID COLEMAN Headley, 50, the key planner and organiser of the Mumbai carnage held in November 2008, has made some hair raising revelations about the attack. Headley has pleaded guilty of his involvement and was testifying for another co-accused Pakistani-Canadian Tawahhur Rana. However, Headley went on to state that prior to the attack, the surveillance conducted by him on behalf of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) gained him appreciation, which also included other co-accused Pasha, his wife and Sajid Mir. The United States denied sharing the details about the involvement of Pakistan’s intelligence agency ISI, whose revelations were made by Headley. The United States authorities have stated that it will be keeping India abreast of the advancement of the trial and will provide complete co-operation in India’s fight against counter terrorism.
The next round of questioning of David Coleman Headley aka Daood Gilani will resume from Tuesday onwards. So far, the trail court documents have revealed that post his training from the LeT, he wanted to move to Kashmir and take position under the now destabilised Al-Qaeda.It is pertinent to mention here that, post the United States’ raid in the garrison town of Abbottabad, which killed Al-Qaeda leader Osama Bin Laden, Islamabad and Washington have been sharing cold vibes. The involvement of Headley adds further fuel to the fire, could drive the United States apart from its existing strategic relationship with Pakistan.
