Deadlock on Women's Reservation Bill, 7 MPs suspended
In an unprecedented move on Tuesday, Vice President and chairman of Rajya Sabha, Hamid Ansari suspended seven MPs for the remaining period of the current session for disrupting the proceedings of the House on Monday.
DEADLOCK STILL prevails in the Rajya Sabha over the passage of the Women's Reservation Bill as the opponents of the proposed legislation which include the RJD, SP and BSP have refused to budge to the repeated pleas of the government on the issue.

In an unprecedented move on Tuesday, Vice President and chairman of Rajya Sabha Hamid Ansari suspended seven MPs for the remaining period of the current session for disrupting the proceedings of the House on Monday.

However, in an interesting twist the suspended MPs that include Ejaz Ali, Subhash Yadav, Sabir Ali, Nand Kishore Yadav, Kamal Akhtar, Amir Alam Khan and Veerpal Singh Yadav have refused to leave the house. It is most likely that the Chair would have to use the services of the security attendants to get them vacate the Rajya Sabha, an unprecedented event if it happens.

All these MPs belong to SP, RJD and LJP-the parties which are opposing the Women's Reservation Bill. After taking action against these MPs, the Rajya Sabha was adjourned till 2 pm and sources said that the government has called for a high level meeting to sort out the matter.

It is pertinent to mention that the UPA government is in a minority in the Rajya Sabha and with the withdrawal of support by the Yadav chieftains, it would be difficult for the government to push its mandate in the House of Elders.

Although BJP and other opposition parties have promised support to the government on the Bill and promised to get it through, but the Congress leaders are worried about the future, as they know that they will need the support of the Yadav leaders in the future, particularly in Rajya Sabha.
