Death of innocents in Gaza strip: Who's really responsible?
It's always difficult to analyze Israel-Arab problem in an easier way on the basis of History. Historically Israel existed since 1500 BC and was a very big land.

If the history from 1500 BC to 1948 AD is analyzed one would always find that the Jews were always subjected to ethnic torture time and again by different rulers, religious crusades (both Muslim and Christian) and even there are periods when Jews had to remain in exile.

Jews were although brilliant but were not capable of armed struggle and hence always failed to face the aggressors. At the time of World War-II, when they realized that their species is at the door of extinction, they started armed defense to save themselves. Since then they build themselves as one of the strongest species who can survive in a very adverse situation like surrounded by the enemies. The intent of this article is to understand the present Gaza situation and why Israel is attacking Gaza and the civil installations.

To understand the situation of Gaza strip one must recall the map of Gaza. Mediterranean Sea is at its western side. Walls have been constructed by Israel in its North and eastern border. In south near the city Rafah which is shared by Egypt and Gaza, there lies Egyptian border.

With this although Gaza appears to and even referred to as an open prison, but the ground realities are different. The HAMAS in fact constructed hundreds of underground tunnels to run its anti-Israel activities. First network of tunnels exist on Gaza-Egypt border mostly under Rafah city. These tunnels are designed to bring merchandise in to Gaza.

The second network of tunnels is bit complex and exist between cities and refugee camps. These tunnels allegedly hide HAMAS' stock pile of rockets. These tunnels provide mobility to HAMAS leaders and even the HAMAS war rooms exist inside such tunnels. Third network of tunnels runs along the Israel part which connects the Gaza strip to Israel territory. This is used to infiltrate HAMAS militants in to Israel territory to take up terror acts.

Interestingly most of the tunnels entrance shafts are located within civilian homes. Owning a tunnel is a lucrative business in Gaza and there are believed to be hundreds of tunnel millionaires! Thus the underground tunnels of Gaza strip are used by HAMAS to mobilize weapons and others to attack Israel and infiltrate inside Israel territory.

One would recollect similar tunnel technique adopted by Pakistan to infiltrate inside Indian territory, which was exposed by Indian Army and tunnels were destroyed. Frankly speaking we are yet to know how many tunnels still exists between India and Pakistan, particularly in Kashmir.

Israel has launched its ground invasion on Gaza on July 17. It was to destroy such tunnels that are really a security threat to Israel! It was ordered after nine days of their air raids and a day after 13 Palestinian militants emerged from a tunnel 250 meter inside the Israeli territory!

Israel used a very sophisticated way to destroy the tunnels. Since now it has destroyed only 36 tunnels. Its air strike was intended to destroy the entrance shaft of the tunnels located in civilian homes. Thus it can be concluded that HAMAS is hiding behind civilian shield and attacking Israel. The civilians of Gaza strip are worst affected although many civilians are part of such HAMAS attack in owning the tunnel for business interest.

The point is simple, Israel has right to defend itself. The cease fire proposal was in fact conditional to close all such tunnels used for terror network. HAMAS didn't agree because it doesn't want peace rather vowed to eliminate Israel and Jews! That's the real problem and for Gaza problem it's only HAMAS that is responsible!

Egypt in 2009 in fact started building 11 KM long 18 meter deep steel wall to block existing tunnels! Recently Egyptian military said that they have demolished 1370 underground tunnels and trying to demolish the rest. Israel too is engaged in identifying and demolishing the tunnels emerging out in its territory!

Thus it's not a war between Israel and Palestine or rather Israel and Arab countries. It's simple an anti-terror defense act by Israel for self defense. Thus while commenting on Israel's attack; one must get clear on their facts. Those who cite history selectively and blame Israel must either be in delusion or may be partial!

In the meantime one must realize that the innocent people of Gaza strip are victimized. But yes, Hamas is responsible for the plight of innocent people of Gaza more than Israel, who is fighting to defend itself.

First I would request the author to come out of tunnel complex. Where did he ever see a tunnel in India or in a foreign country? Second, he has to make to dust off some some preconceived notions of Jewish History. If he has some proof to back his statement, he should give chapter and worse. Jews were always treated well by Muslims. To share some glimpses of Jewish Past - Jews lived in the geographic area of Asia Minor (modern Turkey, but more geographically either Anatolia or Asia Minor) for more than 2,400 years. Initial prosperity in Hellenistic times faded under Christian Byzantine rule, but recovered somewhat under the rule of the various Muslim governments which displaced and succeeded rule from Constantinople. For much of the Ottoman period, Turkey was a safe haven for Jews fleeing persecution, and it continues to have a small Jewish population today. At the time of the Battle Of Yarmuk when the Levant passed under Muslim Rule, thirty Jewish communities existed in Haifa, Sh’chem, Hebron, Ramleh, Gaza, Jerusalem, and many in the north. Safed became a spiritual centre for the Jews and the Shulchan Aruch was compiled there as well as many Kabbalistic texts. The first Hebrew printing press, and the first printing in Western Asia began in 1577. The situation where Jews both enjoyed cultural and economical prosperity at times but were widely persecuted at other times was summarised by G.E. Von Grunebaum. According to Von G “It would not be difficult to put together the names of a very sizeable number of Jewish subjects or citizens of the Islamic area who have attained to high rank, to power, to great financial influence, to significant and recognized intellectual attainment; and the same could be done for Christians. An author should be honest with his work !
