FORTEEN YEARS have went by, but as per Chaman Lal Mattoo, father of deceased Priyadarshini Mattoo, justice is not delivered albeit the Supreme Court on Wednesday pronounced its verdict. The judgement by the apex court commuted death sentence verdict for her killer to life sentence. The bereaved family and friends are still crying for justice. However, the accused Santosh Kumar Singh says that he is 'relieved'.
Son of a former IPS officer, Santosh was convicted of raping and killing law student Priyadarshini Mattoo. After the degree of punishment was commuted the accused said that apart from feeling relieved, he felt satisfied with the court's judgement. On the other hand, the father of the victim expressed his discontent by adding that the family is not satisfied with the sentence. This can be discussed only by the legal experts as it is quite evident that even the Supreme Court has upheld the verdict of the Delhi high court.

The court will pronounce its verdict on October 8. Special public prosecutor VK Patil sought death sentence for the accused who was identified as Shiva Kumar. The prosecutor added that the crime was heinous, atrocious and punishment awarded should be deterrent to society. It should be death sentence.The mother of the victim could not control her tears when the verdict was out and she demanded that the accused who raped and murdered her daughter should be given death sentence.
