Deputy Chief Executive, Michael Sharp said that all the customers have continued feeling the recession pinch and many felt that there was no light at the end of the tunnel. He added that people wanted Debenhams to reduce prices and that move is perfect for Christmas shopping.
The great Christmas sale would be running in the minds of the big supermarkets. But it was not clear whether Debenhams would be coming out with its sale and discounts.Sir Stuart Rose, Chairman of Marks and Spencer said that they intend to trade full price to Christmas after his company beat forecasts with a flat first half profits. Shops will feel VAT hike. However, Freddie George of Seymour Pierce said that clothes retailers would be forced into a great discounting to shift the stock. He added that a number of retailers were quite behind the sale as the autumn ranges were not doing well because of the weather being relatively mild.The Debenhams Sale 2009 has a large section of winter wears, which includes nearly £ 100 off on a women’s full length cashmere blend Precis Petit and also men’s ben Sherman lambs wool jumper has a price tag of £ 27.50However even with the early discounts and sale, many customers will be buying some of their Christmas gifts in January sales to cut costs.
