Decision to not contest Haryana polls is because Delhi is AAP's first target: Gurgaon's Councillor-cum-party's spokesperson
The Haryana unit of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) received a major blow, when it was declared that the party would not be contesting the assembly polls in the state. The national leadership of AAP has gone against the wishes of party's Haryana unit, which was more than eager to contest the polls. The party members from Haryana are disappointed with the party's decision.

''At a meeting held in Karnal on 28th of May, it was agreed that AAP Haryana was ready to fight for 90 seats during the upcoming elections,'' said Balbir Singh, executive member of AAP Haryana. Later there was another meeting in a number of districts, which was conducted by party volunteers, where 95 percent agreed that the party should fight during the polls. In spite of such huge contingent of members agreeing to fight the assembly polls, the central leadership felt otherwise. The party wants to focus on Delhi polls.

Without the approval of the national leadership, the party cannot go to the polls. ''It is with a heavy heart that we have reached to the conclusion that it would not be appropriate to contest the Haryana elections, given the circumstances,'' said Rajeev Godara, chief spokesperson of Haryana AAP.

The party seems to have turned their focus on Delhi with the view of getting a strong hold in the national capital. What must have gone against Haryana AAP is their record during the last Lok Sabha polls, where the party failed at all the 10 seats. Is it a good move to forfeit Haryana and focus on Delhi alone?

''It is not only in Haryana that AAP would not be contesting during the polls, but also other region such as Maharashtra and Jammu and Kashmir as well. We do not want to focus outside Delhi as of now. We want to put all our resources in Delhi and come up with a good performance in the city. Later, after that we can concentrate outside Delhi. Delhi has a very good team, unlike teams in other states, '' said Nisha Singh, AAP spokesperson and MCG Councillor.

Though, AAP might have some logical reason not to contest the assembly polls, but the party members from Haryana are still disappointed. One such member, Ramzan Chaudhry said, ''The decision to not contest Haryana elections is a sucidal act. Volunteers and members want to contest the elections, but still the central leadership does not want the party to fight the elections in Haryana. It is a big disappointment.''

Had Haryana AAP been given a chance to stand up for the elections, the party might not have been successful in their venture, but it was for sure that the party would provide a strong fight to other political parties.

''It is the Lok Dal party and the Congress, which has a good chance, but we could have given them a strong fight,'' said Balbir singh.

Gone are the days, when the party was praised by all and sundry. Things have changed now, where they are battered by everyone. Their list of critics are increasing day by day. ''Now he (Arvind Kejriwal) knows where he  stands. He is afraid to contest in Haryana as he knows that he has no chance to win,'' said MCG Councillor, Mangat Ram Bagri.
