Deepika Padukone to play the role of an acid attack survivor in Meghna Gulzar's next
Deepika Padukone and Razi fame director Meghna Gulzar is all set to create magic on the silver screen once again.

Deepika would be seen playing the role of an acid attack survivor in the film. The upcoming project will be produced by the actress. Deepika, who had a fair share of success in her last film Padmaavat, is all geared up to portray the character of Laxmi Agarwal, an acid attack survivor.

According to reports in Mumbai Mirror, the actress was so touched by the story of this brave lady who survived a brutal acid attack on her that she immediately decided to fund the movie.

Deepika Padukone told Mumbai Mirror, "When I heard this story, I was deeply moved as it's not just one of violence but of strength and courage, hope and victory. It made such an impact on me, that personally and creatively, I needed to go beyond and so the decision to turn producer."

Meghna's last project Raazi did quite well at the box office. The talented director considered Deepika as the perfect choice as she felt that she would do justice to the character. She also thinks that Deepika's physical appearance resembles Laxmi's character.

As told by the Talvar director to a daily, "I was instinctively convinced that Deepika would do justice to the character and the story. Also, her physicality matched with what I'd imagined for Laxmi's character. I'm grateful and encouraged that she was so spontaneous in her decision to do the film. When you take a face as beautiful as hers and portray her as an acid attack survivor, the magnitude of the violence and damage is that much more resounding."

Meghna also said that using Laxmi's story as a lens she has attempted to explore these aspects and the consequences of acid-related violence in the society. She desires to create awareness through this film as she believes that awareness is the first step towards change.

Laxmi Agarwal was attacked by a man in 2005 after she rejected his marriage proposal. She was also announced as the winner of the US State Department's International Women of Courage Award in 2014, and also walked the ramp in 2016 at the London Fashion Week.

But unfortunately, sources reveal that she does not have a job at present.
