Dehradun to host international conference on English communication to support Skill India initiative
Two-day international conference on Methods Aesthetics and Genre In English Communication (MAGIC) is going to be organized at Dehradun's Centre for Professional Communication, College of Engineering Studies under the aegis of University of Petroleum & Energy Studies on the 10th and 11th of November.

The 4th International Conference 'MAGIC-2016' is an initiative to support Skill India programme of the Government of India. According to the organizers of the conference, the aim of the event is to bring together academicians and researchers to deliberate and discuss upon developing communication skills to empower the work force with effective and sustainable communication skills as well as enabling and aligning them with Skill India.

Besides the plenary speakers, group discussions and keynote presenters, the papers on various topics on English communication relevant for various skills will be presented. The suggested topics for paper presentation would be such as inclusive model of skill development through English communication; on-line hybrid and blended education; language learning; communication skills; communication of English literature and many more.

According to organizers of the conference, the selected papers related to higher education in English language will be published in an international journal titled "Higher Language and Communication."

These days, literacy and fluency in English seem to be related to economic self-sufficiency since the markets have opened up with different kinds of employable skills. Not only skilled force in metro cities and workers in multinational units, but, immigrant workers also need to become literate in English.

However, for skilled workers, short-term classes with context-oriented, tailor-made with innovative ways of providing, monitoring, and assessing English language instruction on the job are more suitable, I feel.
