The Delhi Cabinet on Monday gave its approval to extend metro lines with the inclusion of three more lines. The total expenditure expected to incur is Rs. 30,000 crore. The existing Gurgaon-Jehangirpuri line will also be extended.
DELHI METRO is all set to expand its services with the inclusion of three more lines with the Cabinet having given its approval. Not just that, out of the existing lines, two lines are also to be extended. The proposal will be sent forward to the empowered group of ministers and after their approval work will begin.
Delhi Metro Rail Corporation has so far constructed in two phases, the I phase stretch is about 68 km, II phase stretch 125 km and now the proposed III phase will cover 108 km. With this addition to the present phases, the total metro network in Delhi and NCR would go up to 300 kilometers. And this expansion will cost around Rs. 30,000 crores.
The phase III will run parallel to the Ring Road and will easily connect East Delhi with South Delhi. This phase will provide great relief to the people and benefit even because this will de-congest the existing Kashmiri Gate-Central Secretariat line. The other lines that have been cleared by the Cabinet includes a new line from Central Secretariat to Kashmere Gate that would run via Mandi House, ITO, Darya Ganj and Red Fort. The Phase III network also includes the extension of Gurgaon-Jehangirpuri line up to Badli in north Delhi and Noida-Dwarka line up to Najafgarh.
