The first semi-final of the Champions League T20 is scheduled to be played between Delhi Daredevils and Highveld Lions later today in Durban. Primarily, the match would be a fight between Delhi Daredevils' batsmen and Highveld Lions' bowlers.
DELHI DAREDEVILS is the only
IPL team in the last four of the
Champions League T20, who is scheduled to face Highveld Lions from South Africa later today.
Delhi Daredevils has not lost a single game in the competition, whereas the Lions have lost one, but still the home team, Lions, would be strongly supported by the locals in Durban. It could be a test of character for the strong Delhi Daredevils batting line up.
Delhi Daredevils has one of the strongest batting line ups in the competition with Sehwag, Jayawardene, Taylor, Pietersen to name a few along with youngsters like Unmukt Chand in their line up. If these batsmen get to play their natural game, then the Lions might be out in the park for a long and tiring day. But, due to rain, these players have not been able to spend quality time at the wicket during the championship. It could be their biggest drawback.
Take nothing away from the Lions, who have an impressive list of bowlers in their squad as well. Their two premier pacers, Sohail Tanvir and Dirk Nannes, are known for their tight line and length, thus hardly giving away any easy runs. The Delhi batsmen need to take risks to score quick runs, which may work in favour of the Lions. They also have a good spinner in the form of Aaron Phangiso, who could turn some balls, if the wicket provides some assistance.
The competition primarily seems to be between Daredevils batsmen and Lions bowlers, but the rest of the players in the eleven must also play their part , if they are to find a place in the finals of the Champions League T20, which is scheduled for 28 October 2012. The winner of this match will play the finals against the winner of the other semis, which will be played tomorrow between Titans and Sixers.
