Delhi government order to safeguard rights of disadvantaged groups
With six more days still remaining to submit forms, this decision by the Delhi Government has certainly come as a big relief to the parents of EWS and disadvantaged groups in Delhi, who wanted their children to receive quality education with proper facilities that are being provided by the private schools in Delhi. Parents will now be able to submit admission forms in the office of their concerned District Deputy Director of Education till 1 p.m. on all working days up to 16th Jan 2012.
TAKING ACTION on the reports and complaints filed by parents belonging to the EWS and Disadvantaged groups in Delhi, the Directorate of Education today passed a new order, allowing parents belonging to these groups to submit nursery admission forms directly in its regional offices.
Over the past ten days, ever since the nursery admissions process for 2012-2013 started in Delhi, parents belonging to the EWS groups, for whom 25% seats have been reserved under the Right to Education Act 2009 in all schools of Delhi had been complaining of receiving improper treatment in the schools, whenever they went to procure or submit the forms.
According to Rajan Arora, founder of a popular online portal, helping parents with admissions, "Even though Delhi Govt. had put the forms online this year to enable maximum number of EWS category parents to apply for nursery admissions in schools, the parents still faced problems when they went to submit the forms in schools. We have been getting lots of complaints from EWS category parents on our website and we had been helping them file online complaints with the DOE."
Adding further, Arora said that he welcomes these reforms in the school admission system in Delhi and hopes that the Delhi government will take similar steps regarding the General category nursery admissions too. As soon as this announcement was made, many parents belonging to the general category too started posting on SchoolAdmissions.in, demanding the issue of common admission forms and centralized admissions process for Nursery Admissions in Delhi for everyone.
With six more days still remaining to submit the forms, this decision by the Delhi government has certainly come as a big relief for the parents of EWS and disadvantaged groups in Delhi, who wanted their children to get quality education with proper facilities that are being provided by the private schools in Delhi. Parents would be able to submit forms in the office of their concerned District Deputy Director of Education till 1 p.m. on all working days up to 16th Jan 2012 now. The Directorate has also ordered the heads of all recognized unaided schools in Delhi to get the forms collected at 10 a.m. on 17th Jan 2012. While it remains to be seen how well this order will be implemented, this is no doubt a welcome initiative by the Delhi government.
