Pushpam Kumar Sinha, a PhD scholar of IIT Delhi, was arrested by the police for allegedly trying to rape a 19-year-old Naga girl, Ramchanphy Hongray. Sinha tried to sexually assault her and when the girl tried to resist, Sinha strangled the girl.
AN IITian from Delhi, has been arrested for alleged rape attempt and murder of a Naga girl. The PhD scholar of IIT Delhi, Pushpam Kumar Sinha, aged 34 used to stay in the first floor of a rented appartment at Munirka area in South Delhi. He was arrested by the police for allegedly trying to rape a 19-year-old Naga girl, Ramchanphy Hongray. Pushpam Sinha, hailing from Patna, Bihar tried to rape the girl and then killed her.
Ramchanphy was staying in the same appartment but on the second floor. At the time of the incident, Ramchanphy was alone at her sister Timila Hongray’s rented accommodation.
Sinha tried to sexually assault her and when the girl tried to resist, Sinha strangled the girl and using the gas stove burnt her. Pushpam had dragged her body to the kitchen and burnt her face and chest, so that it appears that it was an accidental fire, which claimed her life. Later he fled from the site. Then Ramchanphy's sister returned to her flat, she saw her sister's body and immediately informed th police. The post mortem revealed that the victim had been strangled.
During interrogation, Pushpam who kept changing his statements about his wherebouts, finally broke down and confessed to having murdered the girl. A case has been registered against Pushpam at the Vasant Vihar Police station and the accused has been arrested.
