Special Cell of Delhi police on Tuesday arrested a man suspected to be a LeT operative. Police claimed to have averted a major tragedy with the arrest of the suspected terrorist, who also carried a large amount of explosives.
DELHI POLICE on Tuesday claimed to have made a major breakthrough with the arrest of a suspected Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorist at the busy New Delhi Railway station. Acting on a tip-off from the Intelligence Bureau, the Special Cell of Delhi police arrested the LeT operative from the Ajmeri Gate entrance of the New Delhi station.
Police claimed to have recovered 5 kg explosives, four detonators and two timers from the LeT operative. A senior Delhi police official said that the militant was nabbed from Ajmeri Gate area in the afternoon. Officials said that a Pakistani passport bearing the name of Yousuf, an identity card in the name of Salim, issued in Jammu were also found from him. A briefcase and ticket for a Maharashtra bound train were also recovered by the police.
Sources said that the explosives were meant to carry out major attacks in the state of Maharashtra or in Mumbai.The suspect is now in the custody of the Special Cell of the Delhi police, which will question the LeT suspect to ascertain his plans in the capital.
