Delhi Police are pulling out all stops to ensure the smooth roll-out of the Commonwealth Games in 2010. This was stated by the Minister of State for Home Affairs, Mullappally Ramachandran, in a written reply to a question in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday.

This was stated by the Minister of State for Home Affairs, Mullappally Ramachandran, in a written reply to a question in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday. The minister informed the House that the a Commonwealth Games Security Planning Office headed by a Joint Commissioner of Police had been set up in April, 2006 to oversee the entire security aspect of the games.
He stated that 12,612 posts had been sanctioned to the Delhi Police, out of which 8213 posts have been sanctioned specifically to strengthen the security arrangements for the Commonwealth Games. Delhi police will also procure security equipments like X-ray scanners, door frame metal detectors (DFMDs), hand-held metal detector (HHMDs) vehicles, and communication equipments specifically for the Commonwealth Games.
The minister said that the Delhi Police was provided 200 new motorcycles and 130 new PCR vehicles for increased visibility and speedy response leading to timely intervention in law and order situations. The Government has also approved installation of CCTV systems in 58 market places and 27 border check posts by ECIL on a single tender basis. Two pilot projects are at an advanced stage of completion.
It was also stated that Rs40.80 crores had been released to Delhi Police recently under the Police Modernization scheme. He added that an Intelligent Traffic System (ITS) was being installed in the city, covering 302 intersections/crossings and 87 corridors covering 204km.
