National Commission for Women chairperson Mamta Sharma said the 23-year-old paramedical student, who was gang raped on a moving bus in New Delhi on 16th December 2012 was forced to change her statement in front of Sub Divisional Magistrate.
EVEN THOUGH the gang rape victim battles for life at the intensive care unit of the Safdarjung Hospital, she was asked to give her statement regarding the brutal assault before the Sub-Divisional Magistrate. The statement of the girl confirmed the version of her male friend who was also with her on that night. “The statement given by the rape victim will be extremely valuable for the police to continue with this case,” says Chhaya Sharma, Deputy Commissioner of Police, South.
But Mamta Sharma, National Commission for Women chairperson says that the victim was forced to change her statement before the SDM. She told NNIS, “The FIR in this case was not registered. We also asked the parents of the girl about the incident, but they did not mention about it. But when it was shown on television channels and when SDM came to take her statement, she was pressurized to change her statement.” She added that she will meet the home minister tomorrow and ask him to take action on this issue.
Ms. Sharma also said “Victim’s patients are satisfied with the way the victim is being provided the medical care and attention.” At the same time when it was asked whether the victim will be sent abroad for the treatment, she said that it will depend mainly on her improvement.
