Delhi to host seminar on "Women and Development: Issues and Challenges"
A two-day ICSSR-sponsored national seminar on "Women and Development: Issues and Challenges" is going to be organised by Lakshmibai College, University of Delhi on 3rd and 4th March.
According to the conference organisers, the discourse on development has traditionally constructed women as beneficiaries and not as key players in creating an equitable society.

"Gender inequality has impeded the recognition of women as critical contributors and negotiators in development processes that are intended to augment the larger goal towards creating an equal world."

Keeping the foregoing in view, the seminar would focus on debates around development especially in the context of women and their integration into the global economies by improving their status.

The main aim of the seminar is to analyse the concept of development from the perspective of gender by critiquing programmes and policies addressed towards women in development along with promoting multi-disciplinary approach.

The themes of the seminar are: Deconstructing Development from a Gendered Perspective: Ideological Debates; Gender Bender: The Discourse on Rights and Resisting Inequalities; Reviewing and Recasting Initiatives: Policies and Programmes; Captive Images: Women and Media; Womenomics: From Beneficiaries to Determinants; and many more.
