Delhi to host two-day seminar on quality assurance in education
A two-day national seminar on the theme 'Quality Assurance: Need of the Era' sponsored by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) is going to be organised at Kasturi Ram College of Higher Education at Narela in Delhi from 31st May to 1st June.

According to the organizers, quality assurance in education is the utmost need of today's world to meet the international standards of Higher Education. "Enhancing quality is a holistic process. Quality assurance cannot be determined by strengthening the one loop side but the need is to be united and work together by strengthening all the core aspects such as students, teachers, management, parents, public and government. This is the need of the era to ensure multiplier effect on quality assurance," informs the brochure issued for the seminar.

In the seminar, various issues and challenges related to Quality Assurance in education will be discussed through invited talks, paper presentations and panel discussions. The organisers have assures that the seminar will provide a platform to various participants to get insights to make a paradigm shift toward quality education and excellence in higher education.

In the last few years, quite a few seminars and conferences have been organised on quality in education. Quality often refers to certain specifications and standards or requirements for a product or service or process to be fulfilled. To achieve and maintain quality, systematic periodic measurement, comparison with a standard, monitoring of processes and feedback mechanisms for error prevention and mid-course corrections are required.

The seminar will focus on the quality of teacher education institutions, since quality teachers can only provide quality education. There is no consensus on the definition of quality of education yet. However, many educators see educational quality in terms of how well students learn with sound pedagogy coupled with formative assessment and 'the extent to which their education or learning translates into a range of personal, social and developmental benefits' to them.

Hope, the seminar comes out with a well-defined notion of quality of education and make tangible recommendations to achieve quality of education in institutions dedicated to developing prospective teachers.
