Delhi to observe World Blood Donor Day with a Blood Donation Drive
World Blood Donor Day (WBDD) is observed every year on June 14 to raise awareness of the need for safe blood and blood products. The occasion is also used to thank blood donors for their voluntary life-saving gifts of blood to the needy. Globally, WBDD campaign is led by the World Health Organization (WHO).

In New Delhi, Dr. Harsh Vardhan, Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare will inaugurate the “Blood Donation Drive” on the occasion of WBDD, stated a PIB release. He will also have a media interaction afterwards at the auditorium of Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital in the city.

According to WHO, transfusion of blood and blood products helps save millions of lives every year. It can help patients suffering from life-threatening conditions live longer and with higher quality of life, and supports complex medical and surgical procedures.

The theme for WBDD this year is “Safe blood for saving mothers”. According to WHO, the aim of the campaign is to enhance awareness about why timely access to safe blood and blood products is essential for all countries as part of a comprehensive approach to prevent maternal deaths.
