WITH THE launch of Streak, Dell will become the first major electronics maker to take on the Apple’s iPad with a device that has Google Inc’s Android as operating system, which is a common OS on the smartphones.
The device features a 5 inch screen, has integrated Google Maps with turn-by-turn navigator, street and satellite views. Its other specifications include a high resolution camera of 5MP, built in Wi-Fi, 3G, front-facing camera, Bluetooth connectivity and the latest processor called Snapdragon. The device is mobile and portable. It will have a slot for the external memory cards. It is a part of Dell’s plan to expand the sales of mobile device and generate more revenue.The new Dell tablet will debut in market of Britain around next month through mobile carrier O2 and the US market can expect it during the summer. The price of the Streak has not yet been announced.
Google, on the other hand, is shaking hands with a US based phone carrier Verizon to launch a tablet. HP is also expected to announce a tablet computer soon. It will work on WebOS operating system that was acquired by HP when it took over Palm Company last month.
