Demanding regularisation MCG's contractual employees intensify their protest; warns of nationwide agitation
On 6 and 7 August, contractual employees with Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon (MCG) held a demonstration in front of the MCG office to protest against Haryana Government's failure to make those contractual employees regular who were working on contract for the last 3 years.

The protesting employees were also demanding abolishment of the contract system forever. The employees' union said that if the government still fails to meet the promises made to the employees, then they would go on an indefinite strike.

After the two days strike and procession in front of the MCG Office by the employees, the administration swung into action and tried to pacify agitating employees by ensuring them that it would recommend the state government to meet their all demands.

Employees' union's district secretary Basant Kumar said, "Vatsal Vashisth, Joint Commissioner of Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon (MCG) have assured to give us last three month's pending salaries, opening bank accounts of the employees and uniforms on 9 August in Tau Devilal Stadium located on Sohna Road. On the eve of festival of "Raksha Bandhan", Vatsal Vashisth will be tied "Rakhi" by all women employees on 9 August."

Giving details of their future strategy, Ram Singh, District Head of the employees' union, said, "This time the government has fallen short of its promises. We will launch a nationwide uncertain strike and procession to protest against the government. We will also follow statewide strike of 89 days held by 'Nagar Palika Karamchari Sangh' in 1996-97; when the working was stopped in the entire state. We will hold a 'Jail Bharo Andolan'. On coming Monday, the employees from all the departments may give their arrest including women employees. We have planned to carry out this strategy till 13 August at the state level. "

He added that the employees are waiting for the government's decision. On this occasion, Rajesh (former head of the district union), Mahesh Kumar (deputy secretary of Gurgaon Nagar Palika), and other employees were present.
